ef: A Fairy Tale of the Two combines two chapters of the Japanese visual novel series.
In Ef: The First Tale, Hiro Hirono is not only a full-time student, but also a professional shoujo manga artist. On the night of Christmas Eve, he happened upon two women. The first, Yuuko Amamiya, was a mysterious lady who was waiting for someone at the church. The other, Miyako Miyamura, was a girl who had her purse stolen and snatched Hiro’s bicycle to pursue the culprit. And despite finding himself charmed by these encounters, there is another girl with her eyes on him: Kei Shindou, whom he thinks of as a sister and a childhood friend. This winter, Hiro will waver between his artist dreams and the reality of school.
In Ef: The Latter Tale, Renji Asou is a young man who, due to parental circumstances, has moved overseas repeatedly, and has never experienced any close friendships. One day, he met a girl all alone in a train station. She was looking up at the sky, her left eye covered by an eyepatch: Chihiro Shindou. That was a turning point in fate for Renji, who had always been searching for a “fairy tale”-like meeting. The two of them become closer through their common bond of love of novels, but they eventually move forward in different directions entirely, for Chihiro wishes to try and create a story of her own. The two of them establish an emotional bond over the course of their guileless, everyday lives.
