Buzludzha VR
An immersive virtual reality experience that allows people to explore the abandoned UFO-shaped Buzludzha monument. Learn about the building’s past, see what it could look like if it was ever restored and immerse yourself with playful interactions.
The virtual reality experience is based on the environment of the abandoned Buzludzha monument built by the Bulgarian communist regime in the 1970s. In November 1989 Bulgaria ceased to be a Communist State and the building was promptly closed down. After years of disuse and with no further maintenance, the abandoned structure began to quickly deteriorate and suffer from acts of vandalism.
Imagine being able to explore the environment of the abandoned monument without needing to jump on a plane and being there in person? Well, now you can thanks to Buzludzha VR. Learn interesting facts about the controversial past of this UFO-shaped structure as you reveal and discover artefacts hidden throughout the monument. Immerse yourself with playful interactions such as playing the grand piano, climbing the 70m high tower, flying a helicopter around the structure or shooting with a wine gun. Sense the scale of the structure and feel the atmosphere of the surrounding landscape. This experience is so immersive that it is easy to forget that the person exploring the monument in virtual reality is not actually there.
Buzludzha VR is an experience that both educates and entertains, and is accessible to both VR veterans and VR newcomers. The experience is available for the HTC Vive, Vive Cosmos, Pimax, Valve Index, Oculus Rift and Rift S virtual reality headsets.
